Volunteers send CV and motivation letter (in English) to the sending organization The sending organization make a first pre-selection of the candidacies. The volunteers will have an interview on Skype with the hosting organization. The hosting and sending organization will choose together the volunteers
We are looking for ESC Volunteers (1 Male and 1 Female) in Surf Clube de Viana(SCV) in Portugal for 11 months.
Volunteers will be involved in supporting the work of the SCV’s surf and bodyboard school, in particular in assisting the monitors in carrying out the different daily activities, namely with young people and even with special needs (adaptive surf) in school surf classes and training sport, in the summer camps, summer surf school and in many other surf training activities that help to develop the improvement of the athletes.
About the Host Organization
Surf Clube de Viana (SCV), founded in 1989, in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, is a non-profit association that aims to develop recreational, cultural, sporting activities, encompassing the regular practice of surfing, actively acting in the training of young and adult athletes, with the commitment of high performance training, alongside with the promotion of health, well-being, inclusiveness and respect for the environment. SCV has a completely accessible training centre and offers surfing for everyone, from the initiation and formation level until the highest levels of competition, including surfing for people with disabilities and social risk.
SCV is founder member of ENOS (European Network of Outdoor Sports), Portuguese Surfing Federation and represent the city of Viana do Castelo at World Surf Cities Network (WSCN). The SCV adds value to the project since it holds extensive experience in the active development of outdoor sports, with the focus on surfing, for people with disabilities. It has the capacity for promoting adaptive sports in society to increase participation and to disseminate the results of the work developed on an institutional level.
Activities
Volunteers will be involved in supporting the work of the SCV’s surf and bodyboard school, in particular in assisting the monitors in carrying out the different daily activities, namely with young people and even with special needs (adaptive surf) in school surf classes and training sport, in the summer camps, summer surf school and in many other surf training activities that help to develop the improvement of the athletes.
The volunteers will support the athletes reception in the HPC (High Performance Center of Surf) Surf check lists distribution of sports equipment support in the control orientation in the High Performance Center of Surf, in orientation in the way to the beach and water practice support in the housekeeping and cleaning of spaces, and in general in the support to the planning and accompaniment of activities for people with special educational needs that collaborate with the institution and practice the modality and provide the participation themselves in the classes of surf and bodyboard.
During the week, they will also be involved in the planning, organization and execution of sports and social events, both nationally and internationally, which the SCV already has scheduled for 2021/2022.
According to their competencies knowledge experiences and needs they will develop activities that fall within the scope of the departments that exist in the SCV. In addition to the above, will be directly linked to the construction of a sustainability plan in the SCV and support the planning and organization of activities to enhance environmental protection (oceans and beaches).
Requirements
Responsibility, creativity, organization, autonomy, ease of interpersonal relations and teamwork, determination, empathy, dynamism, initiative, ability to manage unforeseeable situations develop and demonstrate elementary loyalty to the SCV; ease of relationship with different groups, nationalities and ages; the flexibility to perform different tasks; speak English; interest practice and motivation for sports, sustainability and tourism; ease and empathy to work with children young old people and also with disabilities; knowledge of design and communication tools and networking ability.
Profile
He/she must demonstrate interest to learn a new language, be open to experiencing a new culture, to support the Surf Clube de Viana activities. Moreover, the volunteer should feel the need to prove his/her personal strengths, weaknesses and limits, to discover a new environment, and a strong desire to make new friends. Showing interest in foreign cultures and having this experience at this stage in his/her life will help to make decisions for the future, both in terms of personal employment and education/training. Age around 25. Interested in sport is an extra point. At least have a degree from high school
General Conditions
The volunteer will work 35 hours per week and will have 2 free days, most of the activities may be developed during the weekends, however, it will be compensated with other two consecutive days during the week, agreed on mutually between the volunteer and the association. The volunteer will also be entitled to two days off per month, which will be taken according to SCV interest needs and their own. The SCV provides food allowance, monthly subsidy (pocket money), free accommodation and transport from and to the residence/volunteer service place
